1. How often should I wash my wig?

Worn consecutively, we recommend washing your wig once every 10-14 days.

2. How should I wash my synthetic wig?

Washing instructions for your synthetic wig are as follows:

1. Fill sink or bowel with cool to luke warm water.

2. Add mild shampoo and gently wash wig.

3. Let your wig soak for approximately 5-7 minutes.

4. After soaking is complete, rinse the wig thoroughly in cold water.

5. Once rinse is complete, shake the wig vigorously.

6. Do not brush your wig when wet, let your wig drip dry.

7. After hair is completely dry, brush hair into desired style.

8. Do not use curling iron or curling kits. However, some of our higher end wigs are made to be used with hot rollers. All of our wigs comes with a wash and care tags, consult your tag to determine styling needs.

9. If your wig has a curly or wavy texture allow the curls to snap back into position when hair is completely dry.

3. Will I be able to use holding sprays, gels and mousse on my wig?

No. Holding sprays that are not water soluble and should never be used on synthetic wigs! Instead, use products specifically designed for use on synthetic wigs. This will add to the longevity of the wig. Human hair wigs are created using a processing technique many times over; this leaves the hair shaft vulnerable to damage. Therefore, products specifically formulated for human hair wigs work best. This will ensure that you get the maximum wear out of the wig.

4. How should I maintain my wig and what styling tips should I use?

If your wig has dirt, oil, or makeup build-up along the front hairline, we recommend you use an old toothbrush or a small piece of cloth, and a mild shampoo to remove it. To remove excess water, use a cotton towel and blot until water is absorbed. Allow hair to naturally air dry.  See our section on Hair do's and dont's for styling tips  and more options.Once hair has air dried, proceed to comb through hair, starting at the ends and work your way up to the base.

5. How do I apply my wig?

After removing the protective hair net from your wig shake the wig and allow hair fibers to expand. If your natural hair is short, brush hair back from your face and behind your ears. For longer hair is long, pull hair back and distribute evenly.  We recommend braiding your natural hair flat against your scalp to achieve an evenly distributed hair do. You can even use bobbi pins to pin your hair as close to the scalp as possible. Tuck any stray hair at the front, sides and nape. Use a wig cap to smooth the hair and hold your wig at the sides with the woven label in the back. Place wig on the middle of your forehead and slide it on from front to back. The top front of your wig’s cap should rest approximately 1/4” past your natural hairline. If the wig is place on the forehead too much toward the front hairline, it will look “hat-like” and unnatural. The sides of your wig should be evenly placed in front of your ears. Never place the wig over your ears. See our section on styling tips for more details.

6. What is the best way to store my wig?

The best way to store your wig is on a wire wig stand or Styrofoam wig head. This will keep your wig fresh and maintain the style between wearing. Keeping your wig in a clean place, away from dust, sources of high heat, and excessive humidity will ensure you get the longest wear from your wig. Never enclose your wig inside a box or plastic bag (except while traveling).

7. Can the wig be made bigger or smaller to better fit my head?

Yes, most wigs can be adjusted to fit your needs, by tightening or loosening the Velcro or adjustable tabs located in the back of the wig.  Take a peek at our Jon Renau collection, this line has large and petite cap wigs.

8. What are falls and half wigs?

Falls, also known as, half wigs are hairpieces worn with your own hair to easily and quickly add length, volume, texture, and/or color to your own style. You wear the fall on the back half of your head and style your own hair in the front to blend with the fall. Some falls are made with a base that attaches to the top of the head with either combs or clips sewn into the base. Others feature a 1/2 or 3/4 cap (a bit smaller than a full wig cap). The front is placed on the head just behind the ears and the back fits over the nape. It is secured with combs or clips sewn into the cap.

9. What is a lace front?

Lace frontals are good solutions for women who suffer from mild to severe hair loss around the front hairline. Lace fronts add thickness and length to the front of the head. They are applied using adhesive products such as invisible toupee glue or tape. We suggest the tape, because it lasts longer, is less expensive, more durable and easier to control than traditional glue adhesives. A lace front wig comes complete with adjustable straps or stretch material in the back, and therefore cannot be worn in a high ponytail.

A full lace wig has lacearound the circumference of the wig, and can be worn in a high ponytail. Both wigs can be parted anywhere, and both offer a more natural appearance.

10. What are monofilament wigs?

Monofilament refers to the type of material that hair strands are sewn onto. The term Monofilament is derived from the process of handknotting and attaching the hair to the material one strand at a time.  This allows the strands to move freely on the base. Unlike a cloth material that can be itchy for those with sensitive scalps, the monofilament material is a thin, nearly transparent material which is very comfortable to the touch. This weaving technique also creates ventilation for the scalp. Monofilament wigs ventilate the scalp, thereby preventing heat and moisture buildup.  This unique feature makes monofilaments preferred by those of us who are suffering from hair loss. To ensure the most natural appearing scalp, the monofilament fabric is nearly transparent it will take the color of your own natural scalp. This camouflaging effect projects the most natural looking part available.

11. Do you carry medical wigs?

Technically, there is no such thing as a “medical wig”, but there are wigs that are more comfortable which makes them an appropriate choice for those who are experiencing hair loss.  If you are looking for a wig due to hair loss resulting from chemo, alopecia, or other traumatic events, please rest assured knowing that we have specially made wigs for sensitive scalps. Our monofilament wigs have soft caps, are lightweight and ventilated making them the best choice for those that experience hair loss.

12. What types of fibers are used to create the wigs?

Synthetic:

These days, higher quality synthetic wigs are nearly indistinguishable from human hair. Synthetic wigs are low maintenance and inexpensive. Most synthetic wig fibers have memory, which enables the fibers to retain its curl and wave pattern.  This is why it is not recommended to use thermal styling tools on synthetic wigs; it could damage the wig.

Human Hair:
Human hair wigs give the most natural looking appearance. These wigs can be cut, colored and styled to your heart’s desire.  The term Remy” refers to the process of lining the hairs in the same direction upon making a wig. This process ensures that the hair cuticles are lined in the same direction, thereby reducing tangling.  Although, human hair wigs are more durable than synthetic wigs; they are more expensive and require more maintenance than synthetic wigs. It is recommended that you shampoo and condition human hair wigs just as you would your own.

4 types of human hair.

a. Indian -most frequently used, plentiful

b. Indonesian

c. Chinese-used frequently

d. European- Strongest and most durable and most expensive due to its rarity
